YouTube gaming livestreams now support 60fps

4.6
YouTube has launched 60fps support for its livestreaming service.

Having launched 60fps playback some time ago, YouTube has now upgraded its streaming technology to support 60fps livestreams.

The new system transcodes streams into 720p60 and 1080p60. You will need a browser that supports HTML 5 to be able to watch said streams. The HTML 5 player now also supports rewinding and variable speed playback at 1.5x and 2x.

Both Elgato and XSplit have released updated versions of their capture tools to support the new feature.

The program is currently in preview period and the creator blog post did not say when it will fully launch.

Took them long enough.. They're trying to compete with Twitch but it won't work out for them.

-Dylan1 Twitch streams are much better, don't see Youtube ever catching up.

I don't think YouTube are planning on trying to ever compete with Twitch as I am pretty sure they know they have no chance.

I guess this is good for some of the Youtubers who livestream.

Good improvements but will this update make videos load slower?
