Xbox One 500GB Model Gets Permanent Price Drop to $349; New 1TB Model

Just before the big guns start blaring next week at E3 2015, Microsoft is already opening the gate for some new announcements for the Xbox One, including a new refresh of the standard console bundle with some new additions and a price slash on older models.

In a post from Microsoft’s Larry Hryb (Major Nelson), the company has announced that a new 1TB Xbox One bundle will be made available to retail stores starting next week, on June 16th, 2015 during E3. Hryb detailed that the new 1TB Xbox One console will also include some other updates such as a new matte finish for the console alongside the larger hard drive, a newly-designed Xbox One wireless controller, and will also include copies of Halo: The Master Chief Collection in select regions for a limited time.

The Xbox One’s wireless controller has now been updated to include a 3.5mm stereo jack to allow headsets to be plugged directly into the controller to allow for features such as adjusting headset volume, monitoring mic levels, and other features through the Xbox One’s console settings.

Alongside the controller’s improvements to audio and chat capabilities, the controller’s bumpers have also received some “fine-tuned” adjustments and the controller is also updated to allow wireless firmware updates, no longer requiring users to plug the controller in via USB to receive firmware updates. The new controller will be bundled as a standard with the new 1TB console, while also being available to purchase separately in both black and a new camouflage design (black/silver), named the “Xbox One Special Edition Cover Forces Wireless Controller,”

The new Xbox One 1TB console bundle will be shipping to retailers on June 16th, 2015 in the US, while other regions will be receiving the console over the course of later this month, with the new bundle to retail for $399.

In addition to the announcement of the new bundle, Microsoft also revealed that the previous 500GB Xbox One consoles will also be receiving a permanent price drop to $349 in both the United States and other select regions.

As a final bit of news, an Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows will also be made available to purchase this fall to allow users to use wireless Xbox One controllers across Windows 10-capable PCs, laptops, and tablets. The Xbox Wireless Adapter will be available standalone for $24.99 (U.S. MSRP), while a bundle will also be made available with both a controller and the adapter for $79.95 in most markets where Xbox accessories are sold.

The new 1TB Xbox One model will be released to retailers starting June 16th, 2015 – in the meantime, you can check out a video from Major Nelson with the announcement below, along with an image of the new Xbox One Wireless Controller in the new black/silver Camouflage design below:

Ah, so it actually is permanent then?! The new bundle is just stuff that should have been available from the beginning, a fixed controller and a 1TB HDD.
