Don't Hold Your Breath for Backwards Compatibility on PS4
"I was very surprised. It must have taken lots of effort for them to realise the backwards compatibility, because the Xbox 360 and Xbox One use very different kinds of architecture," Sony's Shuhei Yoshida said on the matter in an interview with EDGE. "They showed a very short list of titles that work, and doing software emulation means you have to work title by title. So I'm curious to see what kind of games will be included in those 100 games that they say will be compatible by the end of the year," he continued, sounding somewhat sceptical.
Yoshida remained sceptical when asked about the possibility of backwards compatibility on the PS4, however. "I totally understand people asking for it, and if it was easy, we'd have done that," he replied, adding: "But our focus is creating PS4 games and adding new services." Perhaps disappointing news for those of you holding out for some hope. "Remaking games on PS4 makes the games even better – with The Last Of Us, you can play at 60 frames per second, and the same goes for Dark Souls 2. Actually, I just finished Dark Souls 2 again on PS4," Yoshida concluded, belting out a quote that's bound to have people in an uproar about remasters.
Backwards compatibility seems to be a debate that never quite goes away, but where do you stand? Would you make use of your old PS3 games on your PS4, or do you prefer having older titles remastered for your new-gen hardware? Try not to be too controversial in the comments section below.

Backwards compat on the PS4 would make the world of difference when it comes down to "Which console has the better games".

Only 100 games :/ i thought they would add pretty much all of them. Right they need to stop with the crappy games and get some classics through.

NBC I would kill for CoD 4 to be remastered on either XB1 or PS4. I'd 100% switch to the console that did that.
SAME!! CoD 4, 5, MW2 and BO1 would be incredible to see remastered. They were the best CoDs ever made and I don't think there will ever be another one to rival them.

Glad I didn't throw out my xbox 360 games when I got the one. Kind of iffy about ps4 not getting it though, I was looking forward to purchasing the ps4 as well.

FreshwaffleYoke thank god Microsoft actually listens to its community!
Neither Microsoft or Sony listen to the players. They listen to money.
Yeah because the ability to use games you already own will make them a fortune?
If they were after money they would re-release on "next-gen"

Tickld Not really suprised at this, Microsoft making the XB1 have backwards compatibility at this point in the consoles life is a real shock to everyone (including Sony from what I hear) usually backwards compatibility would be something that a console maker would pack in at the very beginning of the consoles life to try and make people buy the new generation. At this point I think it is kinda pointless as people who want to play the old games probably heard that the console was not backwards compatible at the start and just kept their old console and all the old games they want to play.
But what about those that didn't? What if they gave away/sold theirs to get the Xbox One?
What if somebody has a younger sibling who could use an Xbox 360? Now they can give theirs to that person.
Don't focus on the negatives.
