Treyarch Explains Why Call of Duty Black Ops 3 Isn’t XB1/PS4 Exclusive

Treyarch will be returning to the Call of Duty fold later this year with Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 in November.

While some of its decisions have irked fans (just look at a few negative reactions to the new Zombies mode), it’s pretty much a given that Black Ops 3 will be a major success. The question is: Did Treyarch miss out on having the game only for current gen hardware?

There are arguments both for and against focusing on new hardware, as Treyarch director of brand development Jay Puryear told Gaming Bolt. When asked about there being any specific reason why a previous gen release was happening, Puryear said, “Is there a reason?! We’ve got great fans. Call of Duty experiences are always about the community and fans and we want to make sure that everybody who wants to play Black Ops III can.”

Will the hype for Black Ops 3 be justified at launch, especially considering previous entries like Advanced Warfare didn’t quite set the world on fire? “Of course! Right? I mean look at it, the team has worked 3 years to pour their hearts and soul to deliver a product that will push on single-player campaign with four-player co-op on next-gen. We’re really pushing the system in the machine and hardware.

“If you look at all the innovations that we’re doing on multiplayer and really adding this combat loop, progression system, specialists characters. So, there is just so much content on the disc and then when we roll out our zombies I think you’ll see that we’ve got 3 games in 1. So, as far as the content and the experience we’ll get out of this, we think is absolutely by far the best.”
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is out on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and PC on November 6th.

Exactly. I might not be a fan of CoD, but it's a simple fact that it's one of the best selling game series of all time, even to this day.

It's on its way down. They no longer are breaking sales records and are getting further and further away from what they used to make. It only sold great because Activison put more money into the PR hype train then the actual development. People are finally realizing that all these "news" sites and big YouTubers that hype up these games are full of crap and these games are copy and pastes of the last one with very minimal difference (AW is the most change we've seen since CoD 4's complete overhaul of the CoD MP)


See, I'm not the only one that gets it. On top of the misleading hype train that everyone gets on, they keep adding stuff to appeal to kids now. I would bet that the people who played CoD 4 and MW2 would prefer to see a remake of those games than to have another exo-suit infested piece of garbage. It's no fun anymore, and the number of people consistently online is dropping steadily.

I bet all CoDs will be on last gen because they too lazy to actually upgrade their engine to something that actually requires specs higher then last gen. And if by some miracle they don't make it for last gen, it'll be entirely PR related and not actually because they've made a game that requires current gen specs.

So happy to be seeing people finally realizing truly how greedy these morons are and getting to see their franchise die because of it. Will be a great day when there's no more yearly CoD crap.

Qwel Well cod hasnt really seemed to progress and expand much since black ops 1 and just like the people who refuse to progress and expand to a new systems. Im actually ok with it being on both old and new. Theres still a huge amount of players on the old systems so I mean its smart to have it on both.


There is obviously something wrong with you if you think CoD hasn't progressed since Black Ops 1. Black Ops 1 is the worst CoD in my opinion, it's so bad I'd rather play Ghosts over it. They obviously have progressed since Black Ops 1 considering there are always changes.
