One of the biggest surprises from E3 this year was that Fallout 4 would support user mods across PC and Xbox One. That's still in the cards, but it definitely won't happen at launch. Of course, that's because the tools that'd allow you to, say, replace the game's fearsome bear-like enemies the Yao Guai with 3D models of Yogi the Bear don't exist yet according to IGN. Publisher Bethesda Softworks' vice president of marketing Pete Hines says that the team's focus is on making sure the game ships on time. "Our entire focus is on finishing the game," he said. "Nobody cares about mods if the game sucks." Concise! Once Fallout 4 proper is done (and the team likely takes a bit of a break), work on The Creation Kit will begin; it'll take "clearly into next year," according to Hines.
"Wont happen at launch" that's fine by me as long as in the future there will be mods for this game, will allow me to focus on the actual game before going over the top with mods.
-Corgi People can still make mods with mod tools. This just means that they aren't making an official mod tool yet, right? User created mods without the mod tool will still be available I'm guessing.
Yeah they can, but it'll be illegal because you won't have permission to make mods yourself.
No. Modding a game is not illegal. All they are doing is not releasing a mod tool at launch.
I'm fine with that, as long as it is supported at a reasonable time after release. I don't even think of using mods for the first few months of playing a Bethesda game, because I love to experience vanilla gameplay before I mod it out.
I'm not too bothered about this. After all, you play through the game normally first, then get to all the modding content. I can't see the tools being too hard to develop so it shouldn't take a massive amount of time.
