Crackdown 3 destruction is multiplayer-only

4.6
Crackdown 3’s impressive-looking destruction will be limited to multiplayer, but some of it can be found in single-player.

Crackdown 3 showed up on Microsoft’s gamescom 2015 stage earlier this week. The demo shown was very short, but the behind-closed-doors one wasn’t, and it gave us a much better look at its brand of destruction.

Because the game is using Microsoft’s servers to power most of the calculations for this destruction tech, you’ll naturauly need an online connection for that. It’s a good idea then that developer Reagent didn’t force everyone to play the game online, and kept this fantastic tech to the online component.

“Yes, [destruction is] exclusive to the multiplayer mode. You have to be online for multiplayer, and at that point we can connect to the cloud and really expand the experience,” Dave Jones told IGN at gamescom.

Jones later confirmed what everyone believed, that the single-player won’t sport this level of destruction. One of the reasons is Crackdown’s gameplay itself, which relies on collectibles, scaling buildings and other activities that would not exist if everything was destructible.

Crackdown 3’s single-player will as a result be playable offline, and will retain some form of destructible environment, just not on the scale of multiplayer.

It's for the best so that we can play single player without an internet connection.

Bio If it makes the game easier and more smooth then I'm always for it. Seems like they care about the overall experience.

Totally with you on this, originally came here to cry but that makes perfect sense.

Anyway, Just Cause 3 will give us that destruction fix.
