Yoshida on PSN name changes “we don’t know if we can ever do it”

Sony is looking into one of PSN users’ most-requested features, but it may never happen.


Sony has yet to deliver a top-requested feature to PlayStation Network users everywhere; the ability to change account names. According to Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida, as of right now, the company doesn’t know if it can be done.

Here he is answering this fan question.

Microsoft offers users the ability to change their Gamertags any number of times, with the first time being free.x

you dont just add it in the game it has to be incorporated into a system that never had it. It has to be codded into ps3 and ps4 plus the psn service as a whole. alot easier said then done. Plus they probably want to make a way to charge for it like Microsoft does.

Simple features like these should be implemented, if they dont listen to the PS community, then why buy one, i agree with you

the only incentive is PS4 exclusives and the controller. honestly xbox is your way to go if changing your name matters that much to you.

Famous Wait what, hahahaha I never knew PSN didn't have this feature.


Yeah. It's awful. Such a simple thing they missed out on.

It's stupid how you'd have to make a whole new account just to have a new name. But that's Sony for you.


It would have been quite the game-changer too, I would also have liked if they allowed spaces in names. Underscores and stuff make it look kinda sloppy.
