E3 2016: Microsoft announces the next Xbox, Project Scorpio

Microsoft has just confirmed the existence of an upgraded Xbox console.

Microsoft has announced Project Scorpio, the next Xbox console. During its E3 2016 briefing, head of Xbox Phil Spencer said he believes it will be the most powerful console ever.

Scorpio will boast an 8-core CPU, with a GPU capable of 6 teraflops. This graphics processor will be the most powerful in a console, according to the announcement.

Microsoft promises “true” 4K gaming and “high-fidelity virtual” reality with Scorpio, which will coexist alongside the 2013 Xbox One, as well the newly-announced S model. All games available on either console, as well as accessories, will be compatible with Scorpio.

It’s due for release holiday 2017.

Pretty nice in my opinion, especially since they managed to keep the price low. We will see how many GB the $299 version will have, but if I had to take a guess it'll start at 500GB again and move its way up to 2TB. Either way, there's still a lot of time until then.

Basically they are moving from crappy consoles to the PC equivalent. Looking forward to seeing the specs of this console to see how it compares to high-end PC rigs if it is meant for 4K gaming.

Hahaha nooooo. The normal Xbox one was $500. At LEAST $700. 4K gaming is not cheap and on top of that they've ditched the crappy apu's they've used in consoles since the dawn of time and are going to have separate a CPU and gpu which will cost more
