Sony PlayStation's (entirely fictional) Kevin Butler holds many (also fictional) positions within the company, but apparently none of them require him to keep up with (very real) news events. According to internet rumors, Sony is planning to subpoena certain PS3 hack sites as well as Youtube and Twitter in order to find out the real identities of those devs still hacking the PS3. Originally, EA had hoped to release the first footage for Battlefield 3 via Game Informer and the game's web portal. Things did not go according to plans as the trailer was leaked early on YouTube. Sony has revealed that the NVG card format for NGP games will provide an 'extra layer of security' in order to 'deter piracy' when pressed. The NVG card format will be the new standard for games on the PSP's successor and can also store downloadable content. Obviously after all the recent PS3 hacking, this news is something of a 'hot topic'.

Well known hacker Mathieulh has reportedly confirmed that Sony has implemented a 'rootkit' in the latest PS3 firmware. He noted "Essentially Sony can now remotely execute code on the PS3 as soon as you connect. This can do whatever Sony wants it to do such as verifying system files or searching for homebrew. Backwards compatibility with legacy game formats isn't the sort of make-or-break feature that determines the fate of a new hardware system, but it does score major bonus points with the manufacturer's fan base when it does work -- and elicits plenty of groans when it doesn't. Removing files from the internet is about as difficult and futile a task as trying to remove an upsetting mental image from your thoughts -- elephants with spider faces! (Boom!
