To make things quite a bit easier, I suggest you buy a few tools. The first one is a tool that is specially made for popping the tabs out on the back of the console. The next two tools will be a T10 torx driver and a T8 torx driver. You can find these three tools on eBay for relatively cheap.

Now that you have your tools, remove any peripherals attached to the machine and lets begin!

1. Insert your thumb into the usb port on the bottom of the faceplate and firmly grasp the bottom with your index finger. Pull back with a little bit of force and the bottom will pop out. Continue pulling until the faceplate is off

2. Stand the Xbox upright and remove the rubber foot on the top near the back. Now inset the tool inside the slot shown and pry the tab as you push up on the front of the piece. Pop the tabs circled and repeat for the other side.

3. Turn the Xbox over and remove the tabs circles. Repeat for the other side.

4. Here is where the opening tool is very handy. Insert the tabs that are sticking out on the opening tool into the matching holes as shown. Apply pressure to the tool as you separate the console with your fingers.

5. Turn Xbox over again and repeat with the other set of tabs.

6. Lay the Xbox upside down and unclip the tabs shown.

7. Remove the screws circled with a T10 torx screwdriver.

8. Turn the Xbox right side up and gently pry out the eject button as you pull on the top of the case.

9. Remove the silver tape holding the DVD drive in place and gently lift up on both the front and back of the DVD drive. Once out, remove the two connections and set the DVD drive aside. Please note the tiny clips that are on the side of the chassis the DVD drive sits in. Make sure that if those do come off, that they are not left on the motherboard.

10. Now slide the tool into the slot of the fan as shown and pull the tool towards you. The fan shroud will pop right out.

11. Pull up on the chassis to pop the fans out. Remove the plug from the motherboard and set the fans aside.

12. Moving to the front of the Xbox, remove the ring of light panel off by gently pushing on the top tab.

13. Remove the 3 screws shown with a T8 torx driver and pull the board out.

14. Stand the Xbox upright and remove the screws that are indicated by a red dot with a T10 torx driver. Remove the screws indicated by a blue dot with a T8 torx driver.

15. Lay the console back down and pull the motherboard up by the usb port in the front. Once you can, grab the memory card slot too as you pull up. Once you clear the chassis enough, pull the board out.

16. To reassemble, reverse the order.
