In this tutorial I'll be showing you how to use flares to make your images stand out more, and have a nice effect also. First off, we'll start out with a very standard photo with a black background. The main image base does not matter, so I'll be using a standard black background, with some C4D text I made previously. The image size will be around 900 x 600px, but there is no recommended size for adding flares.

Now, we're going add in a flare, just open a flare on which you have either found on the internet, or already have, and drag it into PS. Don't worry about it covering up the original text, we'll fix that shortly.

You want to pick a colored flare that usually has some similarity to the original image. Now, we're going to change the layer style on the flare image, to screen. Also, make sure the image is above the original text. You should get this.

Now, drag the flare to the top right of the text, or in general, where you feel it would be necessary. The most common place is usually towards the top left of the text, or somewhere in that general area.

It looks nice, but we still have the residue of some of the original flare image, with rough square edges. To remove these, we're going to select the eraser tool > Pick a light brush > Change hardness to 0% and opacity to 100%.

Chose a relatively small brush size also, because we'll want to be precise as possible. Now, lightly erase the flare image's sides, to look more like it blends in. Erase around the main flare image, and Once complete, we should be given this sort of image, which is our final image.
