Step 1 Start with a diamond gradient, ideally white and be sure that the secondary colour's "Transparenct - Alpha" is set to 0. For the examples I have used a black background so you are able to see the object being created.

This can have more impact on other pieces of work you create when you utilise the layer property tab. You will find normal, darken, glow, additive among others. You can explore these and see the different outcomes that you can achieve.

Step 2 Next you will want to reduce the height of the gradient and increasing the width.

Step 3 Select Drop Shadow, you can play around to get an effect that you like.

You can then go on to use the glow effect to your liking.

Step 4 The next step is to use the Soften Portrait plugin to make the image a lot softer and smoother.

Step 5 If you wish to go for a more abstract appearance by adding a new layer and making a line across the image. I would say between 2 and 5 pixels in width.
You can then go on to use the smudge tool, set it at around 20% and push it around a little to your liking.

Next you will want to duplicate the layer a few times and flip them in differenct directions. After this you will want to fidle around with the glows and drop shadows of each layer, it is best to have them slightly different from each other.

Step 6 You can then merge the layers all onto one (Do not merge the background as well) and move it on top of the previously created diamond gradient. You can then change the colours again if you like to make a stunning little piece.
