Q:What does this exactly do?
Since it seems like half the community can't read this TUT is to teach you how to change the gamertag on a banned Xbox Live account. Once you change the tag the account IS NOT unbanned but the gamertag becomes available to be added to a new account.


This is very common knowledge for some people but I though might as well make a tut to explain the process a bit better.

Once your account has been banned you can no longer sign into Xbox Live or xbox.com but other sites that use your Windows Live ID/Gamertag are not updated. What I mean by this is you will still be able to sign into accounts as usaual on sites such as...

Zune.net
Bungie.net
Passport.net
live.com


Not much can be accomplished on these sites but it is a start. Zune.net however can be used to change your Zune tag which in turn changes the gamertag attached to the Windows Live ID. This process can only be attempted a limited amount of times so be sure that you understand what to do before attempting the following.

ONCE YOU HAVE STARTED THE TUTORIAL DON'T SIGN OUT OR SIGN INTO ANOTHER MICROSOFT WEBSITE UNTIL IT IS COMPLETED

Before you start make sure that the following criteria is met:

Know your Windows Live ID+Password
The account you are changing the gamertag on must not be a child account.
The account MUST have at least 800 Microsoft Points on it in order to change the Zune Tag.

(If the account does not already have enough points on it purchase a Microsoft Points card before attempting this tutorial.)

How To Change The Gamertag On A Banned Account

Sign into your Windows Live ID on Zune.net
If you are given a error please continue to the bottom of this page.
Go to the top-right hand corner of the page and click My Account
Under account summery you will see the option Change Zune Tag
Continue with the process and when it comes time to chosse a Zune Tag create a tag that you wish to replace the gametag on your old XBL Account.
Confirm the Microsoft Point Purchase
Congratulations your old gamertag is now available put it on a XBL account before it is taken by another Player




Possible Errors:

"This Account Is Unable To Make Purchase On Zune.net"
This error is very uncommon but it mens your account is either a child account or the xbox live account had been banned by a Xbox live Enforcement Team Supervisor. This error is not fixable and in most cases means that the gamertag has been lost for good. If you are receiving this error contact me and I will see if I can do anything to help.

This is the most common of the errors that may accrue this means that you have attempted to do this before but failed miserably. But unlike the other error this can be helped. You can either...

Wait until the zune.net TOS are updated
Call Zune and have them close the Zune account then you may reopen the account and complete this tutorial again
Be aware they may not always allow you to close your Zune account.
