According to this one show I watched that had Adam Savage hosting, he said that it could eventually be possible. You would just need many surgeries and need to manually program your mind with your memories, or you could end up losing all of them over long amounts of time. I really don't think living forever is good. I would go insane.

phlegm wrote It was really hard to interpret this theory considering the grammar is far from perfect... With that being said, no. I do not think we will ever become "immortal". Especially not in a few hundred years, it takes millions of years for organisms to change in the slightest. In no time soon do I think we will evolve.

And I don't know where you are getting your information from. I don't think in the future humans will have no necks or arms, just ankles, and gigantic heads. And if that were to happen, then yes it is "already happening". But, I think you have a faulty source, so no.

And then I honestly had no idea what else you were trying to say at the end w/ freezing + body development, but my opinion on the topic is no it's not possible.

As i just said a few million years... max billion.... but what happends when there is no world and its just gone no memory no proof that man even existed 1 day the universe will implode.... and if i was immortal i would not like to be there for that""""

Lightyear wrote I don't think immortality is possible simply because everything will eventually become so spread out there will be lightyears between particles ;)

But, as for short term life preservation, it would take a miracle of biology to find a way to stop the aging process, which I don't think will be possible in the next thousand years, never mind the next few hundred.

I AGREE!!!

TBH! we dont know when this will happen

Fluttershyyy wrote I briefly talked about this is a post a while back so I'm just going to quote that...

A very smart physicist, Richard Feynman once said, "There is nothing in biology yet found that indicates the inevitability of death. This suggests to me that it is not at all inevitable and that it is only a matter of time before biologists discover what it is that is causing us the trouble and that this terrible universal disease or temporariness of the humans body will be cured."

While I do believe it is possible to live forever it will not be possible for a long time. In the book I'm reading, "Physics of the Future" it should be possible by the turn of the century. (2100)

Which is kind of sad because if you think about it, we might be some of the last people on Earth to die of old age.

Assuming its released to the public.

Biologically it's possible, but in practice it wouldn't really work. You can stop the aging process, because we only appear to age as our cells have the Hayflick limit, so they can divide 40-60 times, after that all the telomerase in our cells will have been used up. To stop us aging, we just need to find a way to make the telomerase create itself, similar to what cancer cells do. Once that has been done, which I believe will be quite soon, within the next 50 years, maximum. Then you have basically removed aging.

However, this would only stop us aging, we could still in theory die from disease, and other ways such as being shot, stabbed etc... as it only gives the cells the ability to keep dividing.

As for your quote from the Physicist, he happens to be the great uncle of one of my good friends, although they don't have much of his work, being highly interested in science, it's great to see some of the work of a brilliant scientist in person.
