This generation has everything handed to them. I had the privilege growing up farming and I took after my hard working parents. Now that everything is digital, that line of work is practically ruined. Now all food is filled with GMO's . Life was so much simpler then, and also Jim Croce was still alive lol.

Well, you said it yourself:

If life is complex/harder now, doesn't that prove his point? What do you mean this generation has everything handed to them? Today, you can go to university and still get a minimum wage job at McDonalds. A bachelor's degree is the new high school diploma. 20 years ago, if you went to university, for any degree, a good job was practically handed to you.

I hate it when people say this generation is entitled, but they have no proof whatsoever to back that up.

If anything, the kids are getting worse and some older ones. People expect but don't want to give. People take other people for granted more now.

This can be untrue. "The kids are getting worse" ? You can't just generalize a decade worth of ages. There are more mission trips in third world countries than there has been back then as well.

They didn't have as much homework because education wasn't something as important as today. Things are more expensive because of inflation. It doesn't mean that if things are cheaper that you'll get more things. Minimum wage goes up proportional to prices. The more money everything costs, the more you'll earn. It ends up being the same thing.

College is the only thing I'd be concerned about because now that we have technology, anybody can apply to a college online and beat you to it because they want it more than you do. But it's not like every single college will deny you. Unless if you did real poor in school or have a bad record, some college will take you. Sure it's not top tier but somebody will accept you and it'll be fine. I think it's much easier to live today. We all have the internet and smartphones. We're pretty lucky.

That's because this generation has idiots like you who can get a degree and can only find a job at McDonald's making minimum wage. Being successful in life involves two things, location and line of work. People go to college for the dumbest things now a days and complain about not having any jobs available. Its because their line of work is no longer important or usefull.

20 years ago, if you went to university, for any degree, a good job was practically handed to you.

That was because then everything wasn't relied on technology. And really that's not even the right concept of time, try 40 or 50 years ago. Everything was made durable and not sent over seas to have foreign kids make it.

So when it comes down to which generation is harder, yours is no where near the top. People are constantly complaining about not having a job, and don't try. Then make bullshit movies like 'American Winter' which is a bunch of self pitied slobs who cant make ends meet.

Critical said it best, everything is a click away for you people. Your knowledge is stored on a device instead of your mind.

Life was more difficult then because you actually faced real world challenges.

And a couple of decades ago, it really didn't matter what you studied in university, you could have studied anything and got a job out of it pretty easy regardless. But no, I guess makes us entitled for some odd reason.

Plus, there's a lack of fields nowadays where someone can truly study and succeed in. Arts, business, law, even engineering graduates are struggling to find jobs. Before, you could be just average and get a job. Now, you have to be the best of the best. It's a much more competitive world out there.

Pool wrote That was because then everything wasn't relied on technology. And really that's not even the right concept of time, try 40 or 50 years ago. Everything was made durable and not sent over seas to have foreign kids make it.

What's your point? School certainly isn't easier now, if anything, schools are more competitive and more rigorous than ever. And as for the manufacturing comment, what relevance does that have to this discussion?

But everything was handed to you guys regarding jobs, we don't have that same luxury. Also, it's not as simple as "get up and get a job". It's a lot more complicated than that, there have been people that have been to countless interviews and submitted tons of resumes to almost every company and they still haven't gotten a job within the field that they want, or even a good paying job in general.

Pool wrote Critical said it best, everything is a click away for you people. Your knowledge is stored on a device instead of your mind.

Or, we have more knowledge due to the fact that information is now easier to access, and history has proved that greater accessibility to information allows for more education and a higher average intelligence among a society.

Also, for what it's worth, IQ scores have been increasing.

Pool wrote Life was more difficult then because you actually faced real world challenges.

Wow. I guess all challenges in the world all disappeared after the mid-90's. We're now living in a fairytale, where there is no problems and everyone all lives happily ever after.

It did matter what you studied because you had to be careful. Schooling was (and still is) expensive. You're right though, it is a more competitive world. My point is though no one in your generation wants to face that challenge and instead sit around complaining and mooching off other people.

Schooling is much more easier to get, you all have SO many opportunities for schooling. So many scholarships, so many programs, hell I think there is even a program out right now that if you keep out of trouble they pay for your WHOLE college! I wish I had that option. No I had to work hard for my schooling and now a days we have students not even getting passed high school! Now i know you aren't one of them because at least you have a lick of knowledge lol. and my point in that comment was we had to make the items, there for more jobs. Now manufacturing jobs have recrudesced dramatically. It wasn't handed to us, you all took jobs away from yourselves by moving overseas.

The knowledge is only from what you hear and not experience. I also don't believe that considering the drug consumption rate is twice as higher than what it used to be. So you're saying higher drug usage leads to a smarter intelligence rate?

I mean actual challenges that as a country we face together. Now were to busy killing each-other off for who has better meth.

Yeah, there are lazy people but there are lazy people in every generation. But, there are a lot who actually do hard work and try, that's why jobs are so competitive now. You have a lot of people who generally work hard all competing for the good jobs out of university.

Schooling's easier to get now, but you also need that extra schooling to get far in today's world. Previously, you could honestly get by with a high school diploma, and post-secondary degrees were like a bonus. Now, university/college degrees are the standard and everyone has them. Most employers won't even consider you if you don't have that degree.

And as for the whole scholarship thing, sports scholarships have been running for quite a while, so it's not as if this generation has exclusive access to scholarships. If you play a sport very well, you'll most likely get a scholarship and this is the way it's worked for decades. It's only recently that they're now starting to offer more scholarships to those who don't play sports, which is great because more students can now have the opportunity to pay for their education. Tuition is so expensive now that scholarships help with reducing the cost.

I now see what you mean lol with the manufacturing but honestly, blame the corporations who decided to move their factories to China because they could produce their products for much cheaper. The people who run these corporations surely aren't teenagers/people in their 20s. It's not our fault that manufacturing moved to China, it's just unfortunate. It'll eventually come back as the cost of living in China starts to rise.

Firstly, not everyone who uses drugs are stupid. There are some very smart people who have just sadly become addicted to drugs. But the majority of people still don't use drugs so I don't think that it has a major effect on society's intelligence as a whole.

This is true. They are not all bad people, just people making bad decisions and choices.
