Should there be stricter rules on underage gaming?

No, the rules are set as a guideline and it is up to the parents/store owners to decide.

For Christmas this year, my little 7 year old brother got an Xbox 360.

Now with his Xbox he didnt get a 3+ or 7+, he got Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Halo Reach, both these in the UK being rated 18+ and 16+ respectivly.

Now I was only allowed to start playing games rated 16-18+ when I was 14 years old, which was around 2 years ago now. However my little brother is playing these at half the age I was.

But do you know why?

You could blame me I guess. But you could also blame the media. You could blame friends. But its to do with influences.

At the end of the day different kids are effected in different ways to others. Some may be "distrubed" by these games, or others (like my little bro) may shrug off the fact that he just blew someone up and see it all as a game. Its all to do with the individual.

The point im trying to make here is that this 18+ game doesnt make my little bro more violent or want to kill people, so really the rating doesnt really apply to him anyway.

So making the rules stricter would help in some aspects yes, and it would deffinatly benifit, but in other cases no. It would make it harder for under-aged games to get there hands on games and go on un-rated online experiences, which would effect them negatively, but there will still be ways for them to do so, and for now we can just stick with what we have.

Pros and Cons to boths sides I think, but for now stick with what we have

if the parents know and think its ok, then there shouldn't be a problem.

I find that quite often arguments arise over live between younger kids, and for the most part it is the kids that are around 11-16 talking tons of trash in the games. Do I have a problem with kids in my game? no. Do I have a problem with kids that talk trash and think they are cool in my games? yes. I think the rules are fine the way they are, but those younger kids can get very aggravating at times.

In some cases yes, in some cases no. I mean some 13 year olds playing mw3 and acts mature, then sure, I'm fine with it. On the other hand if they're immature then yes, there should be stricter rules for them and can be up to the parents.

I Dont belive it should be stricter, games loke GoW, should be a high rating, but CoD? Should be lessened, the "Raters" Should Review their system as CoD W@W is a "15" and is yet worse than mw3.

I believe there should be stricter rules on underage gaming. But I feel like that would be to hard of a task. It is up to the parents to decide if they want their child playing games where the main goal is to kill as many people as possible.

The parent could easily go to Gamestop and buy the game. Honestly I think they are doing as much as they can to keep young kids from playing violent video games. You can't control what someone does in their house. Its like can you stop a ten year old from watching porn? Nope. its up to the parent. Same rules apply to violent video games.
