I would call it a can of "pop" rather than a can of "soda" if I was asking for a fizzy drink but I normally just call it by its name rather than either "soda" or "pop". I feel like "soda" is an American thing and "pop" is what us UK bois (and gals) call it.

It's definitely soda. Although I traveled to the east coast when I was younger around 13 and everybody out there called it pop. Guess it's just an east coast vs. the rest of the world thing.

Where I'm from, it was always coke. "Do you want Coke?" That is specific to Coca Cola. "Do you want a coke?" That is asking if you want any type of soda. I made a friend through online games that it bothered him a little when I would say I got a coke and it'd be a Dr. Pepper or Pepsi or something and so I felt like I could use either soda or pop to be more specific, and I went with soda since then.

we tend to just say the brand of said drink eg Coke, pepsi etc etc.

I'm from the UK and I don't know anyone that calls it soda or pop.

I just use the name of the drink lol if I have a coke I don't say I'm having a soda I just say I'm having a coke, maybe I'm just boring old fart.

I mean my nieces call it fizzy.

Pop seems to be a thing of the past at least in the US.

Everyone I know says soda except for my racist grandparents who call it pop so idrk
