Modern Warfare 3 sales begin to lag, fall behind Black Ops

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 may have set a new record for the biggest entertainment launch in history, but a decline in ongoing sales has caused the title to be overtaken in life-to-date sales for the same period by series’ predecessor Call of Duty: Black Ops. According to analysts at Macquarie Equities, volume sales for Modern Warfare 3 are currently lagging behind Black Ops’ by around 4.2 percent. For the month of March, it is reported that the title sold less than half the amount that Black Ops sold at that time last year, although exact sales figures are unavailable to the public.

Modern Warfare 3 sold over 6.5 million units within 24 hours of its launch, while Black Ops sold approximately 5.6 million units on launch day.

Webush Securities analyst Michael Pachter states that the title’s poor performance in March could indicate that gamers are becoming more dependent upon new release and less inclined to purchase games post-launch.

Analysts at Piper Jaffray state that the numbers indicate a significant change in the buying habits of the casual market. It is their belief that less players are purchasing games at retail, and that more are using their consoles primarily for video streaming and other forms of media consumption.

Software sales have been down across the board, as seen in sales figures for both February and March.

As I've said before.

Black Ops takes skill, and the 12 year olds on TTG and that play COD don't like a challenge.

MW3 and 2 spoonfeeds them and dumbs shit down, so they like it.

Infinity Ward Had to follow the shitty Treyarch style of maps to make MW3 due to the Black Ops Fans. Black Ops Uses the Infinit Ward 3.0 Engine when MW2 uses Infinity Ward 4.0 (And the game is older)
Treyarch Just don't give a f*ck about MW2 Fans and since black ops came out, every CoD sucks and will suck, thanks to Treyarch

Call of Duty sucks all together now. It has become like sports games. Every year they add a little new stuff and then release it. It's pathetic.

Halo 4 is now on my to do list. At least 343i/Bungie know how to make games more different and better then their predecessors.

Modern Warfare 3 has nothing new compared to Modern Warfare 2, It doesn't have that wow factor about it, Like people said they wouldn't recommend it to a friend so they don't buy it and go back to MW2 or black ops.

pooky177 IMO, I think anyone who liked MW2 is the reason people rage on any Call of Duty. Those are the people who sit in corners, or have a 2 sensitivity, but still kill people. Not because of skill, but because MW2, and MW3 decided to cater to the bad players to make it even, which is not what COD was based on in COD4 or WaW (and now BO) days. COD needs to stop giving free handouts to the terrible players and make it more of a "survival of the fittest" game. If you're bad, then so be it.

OK lets think of the formula that made CoD4, perfect!? Completely balanced guns, besides the MP5 but you truly didn't notice it. Jugg and Matrydom but that is just perks and is the only thing that helps noobs. CoD 4 had IMO the best maps, ever. Just a lil' better than BF's maps. MW2 had some OK ones, now maps are garbage with maybe ONE good map in the game... they truly have become corrupt and I believe Bowling realized, and finnaly got it through his thick skull, IW is just another organization that laughs to the bank.

Make a CoD4 remake and distribute it with the Xbox 720/PC and make it have Metro 2033/Crysis 2 (C2 on PC, NOT Xbox's Crysis 2) graphics. That, would be the ONLY way I'd buy another CoD. (This counts for WaW too...)
