The $1 million prize purse is officially up for grabs starting today with the kick-off of the Call of Duty Championship series. The championship takes place over this weekend in Hollywood, CA, with aspiring millionaires (not after taxes!) throwing down in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Thirty-two total teams will compete over the course of the weekend with the festivities being broadcast over Xbox Live, which is also sponsoring the event. Players can also watch the tournament via Xbox.com, through Call of Duty Elite, Twitch, Gamespot and the Call of Duty Facebook page. The final championship event is scheduled for Sunday, April 7, at 6pm ET.

slapshot101 So if its a million dollars, then 25% goes to federal taxes so we are down to $750,000 and they were teams so you spilt that 6 ways so each 1st place winner only got about $120,000. That is still a lot for just playing video games. I wonder if the second place team won something, it was probably just a year of xbox live.

That is a ton of money for playing a video game, and yeah the second place mean would have gotten something too like 1600 or a year of live, something for coming such a long way

The second place team received a fairly large amount of money. Maybe around 43k per person or something like that.

Dang, that is a good sum of money for playing a video game. I wonder what it took to participate in the competition, I know you had to be somebody in a big profile clan.
