Xbox One sticking at $499, Kinect still 'core part' of experience
"We really believe deeply in the value that we're delivering. Not just for the first day of launch, which we think is going to be amazing, with amazing games and entertainment experiences, but what this architecture can deliver over the long term." said Whitten. "We feel good about our price."
What about changing the price by removing the Kinect?
"We still absolutely believe in Kinect. It's a core part of the architecture. Frankly, it's really critical that you build it as something that's always there, always part of the platform. So that game creators, experience creators can know they can rely on it. And you, the user, that there's always a consistent experience. That it's not just an accessory."
Consumers aren't the only ones happy with today's changes. Both GameStop and rental service GameFly have applauded Microsoft for today's Xbox One policy shift.

661KingNinjaWizard661King I would gladly pay $499 for the X1 and Kinect, IF it was possible to completely unplug it from the system.
I don't find it being there a bad thing or I don't understand why people care so much that it's there.
The main concern is privacy. Having a camera on at all times looking at you is something that makes people uncomfortable. Contrary to popular belief on TTG, Microsoft is not a reliable corporation that should intrude on that much privacy. It has already been discovered that MS intercepts skype messages and calls. It has also been revealed that MS has been giving the U.S. Gov. information about its customers without a warrant. Whats to stop MS from giving the Gov. video/audio from kinects, under a "search warrant"?
so im assuming you don't own any device that has a built in camera or microphone then ?
Yeah, pretty much. The only camera I own is the one on my phone, which isn't always connected to the internet.

But the only way they would do that is if you are doing illegal activity infront of it or you are already a criminal. If you feel that it's unsafe or your worried about your privacy then you can just put something infront of the camera.

The only way they would know you are doing something illegal in front of the Kinect is, if they are already spying on you through that Kinect. Everyone knows that the gov. is corrupt. Most people, however, don't know to what extent. I will give you an example to what I mean. Lets say you have a family member or friend that happens to be a politician or activist that challenges the government. You run a high chance of being recorded for info of either you or your friend.
Another thing is that when you give people access to millions of cameras or in this case, audio, they will use it for other things than just "illegal activity'. One great example is that story that broke a while ago. It stated that the gov. was eavesdropping on Americans that had nothing to do with terrorism.

I don't have a problem with the privacy thing because I don't have anything to hide its the fact I have no use for the dang thing.

For those concerned with privacy, I'd just simply tape the Kinect. I personally think it's great that they are adding it with the system because that way developers can actually make good use of it and make some cool experience with it instead of gimmicky games.
I liked the first Kinect, can't wait to try Kinect 2.0

-SpritzHD- People don't seem to understand. They wanted the kinect to be a new thing. They want every game developer to make there game work around kinect. So of course there going to force you to use it. Why wouldn't they? They want to change there stuff. They don't want another 8 years of the same thing. Don't be babies and cry about changes when you haven't used it yet. Who knows maybe it won't even bother you. You won't even use it much. Don't complain. If you don't like the product why would you buy it? I don't see something that looks stupid and pointless to me and think let's go talk crap about it and probably still buy it. Just shut up. It's not going to be an easy switch from Xbox to Playstation. So just wait to release then state your opinion. Right now you don't know anything about it.
spot on, everyone is just against change when its a fundamental part of technology advancing. Having kinect with every console enables full adoption and integration into games not just the poor side feature as it currently is.
