Xbox One: Microsoft explains why it doesn’t include a headset

Xbox One consoles will not be bundled with headsets because it comes with Kinect, Microsoft has said. The company has issued a statement on the matter

In a statement to Ars Technica, a Microsoft official said, “Xbox One does not include a pack-in headset accessory.

“Each Xbox One includes the new Kinect sensor, with a highly sensitive multi-array microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences. For gamers who prefer a headset, we have a variety of offerings that you can find on the Xbox Wire.”

Sold separately, the Xbox One Chat Headset has not been priced, but it is confirmed as having mono sound, a directional mic, volume control and a mute button.

Kinect does have cameras sure, but it’s no use to people who want to play a shooter and who doesn’t want to have the sound of gunfire blaring across their home while their kids are trying to get some kip.

That's bs. They are forcing you to have a Kinect, yet won't even include a cheap headset. What I want to know is, will my current headset work, if not I'm wont buy an XBone.

Half the people are going to buy surround sound headsets anyways. so they wouldn't use the xbox one headset


you dont see the point. not everyone is gonna pay $500 for the console $60 for a game and $100+ for headset on release date. plus now the chances of someone in the lobby using a kinect mic is gonna be high.

I know very few people who have Turtle Beaches or any other form of headset besides the official MS one. Anyway this is incredibly stupid. I don't care what they say about the Kinect mike. I almost guarantee it is going to be complete garbage just like the one out now. If Turtle Beaches don't have a mike out on Day One then that means I'm going to have to buy a separate headset while I wait. So stupid...

If i play with my Astro A40s and hook them up thru the optical port and until astro makes a adapter for the chat i will just turn my monitor all the way down and play all sounds thru my headset..but my question is this..if i do this..will i be able to chat thru the kinect sensor with the monitor turned all the way down. i know i will hear the game sound and my friends chat thru the HEADSET right but will i be able to talk back to them and they hear me??
