Sony declined to bundle PS4 camera in order to best Xbox One price

Sources close to IGN have said the PlayStation 4 camera was nixed a bundled add-on with every PS4 in order to knock $100 off the original price of $499. Which is the same price as Xbox One.

Sony only informed its retail partners the camera would not be included, but never specified a lower price point in order not to tip off Microsoft before its own reveal, according to the report.

This goes against what various Sony execs have previously said, particularly Shuhei Yoshida.

IGN notes that it may have ‘beaten’ Microsoft by making the camera optional, but it has also diminished consumer adoption of the product, not to mention creating an inconsistent software support.

I think that Sony did this in order to comply with what people wanted.

I would buy the Xbox if it didnt have the stupid kinect camera.

Its amazing how when microsoft took the DRM away everyone moaned saying they only care for money and wanted to increase sales.
But when sony take the camera to increase sales it's fine?

Exactly, everyone's been booing the kinect ever sense it was announced, Sony's just listening to the consumers.

I agree with you, I shouldn't need a camera to play my games. I wasted money on the kinect 1 and I don't want the new one nor the playstation camera.

well who even uses the camera devices anyway? Only child based games would work well with them


Now that it's required the X1, everyone will have one, and developers won't feel like they're wasting money on integrating kinect features into their game.

Imagine playing some horror zombie games. The X1 can detect your heart beat and will know when you're scared. They will be able to some how scare you even more knowing you're already about to shit your pants.
