Multiple Wii online services discontinued today

4.4
As planned, Nintendo is today discontinuing several of the outgoing Wii's online services.

The discontinued services will render the following Wii home menu 'Channels' obsolete:

Nintendo Channel
News Channel
Forecast Channel
Everybody Votes Channel
Mii Contest Channel
Data exchange with Wii Friends

The Data Exchange with Friends closure will affect the "exchange of Wii messages on the Wii Message Board, exchange of Mii characters on the Mii Channel and message/data exchange within some games will be disabled".

This comes seven months after the launch of the Wii's successor, Wii U, in November 2012.

The Wii U Shop channel will remain online for the forceable future, and can be accessed directly via the Wii U system while in its backwards-compatible Wii mode.

Nintendo said within its original announcement, "We at Nintendo sincerely thank you for your continued patronage of our company's products. We apologise to those of you currently using these services."

Wii bowling was fun for the longest time. On top of that, a few of the games that the Wii has.

RaheemSterling_31 I also can't see the Wii U being a big seller

It hasn't been going well as of late. I hope that some good games are released for it and sales pick up though. If they don't then we may see this happening for the Wii U some time soon

People are moving over unfortunately, some people are going to the Wii U and 3DS which Nintendo will continue to support until they decide to make another console and some people are moving over to Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4 and PC gaming.

There are very little people still using the Wii. I guess that goes the same with the PS2 and Original Xbox. People have just 'Moved on' so to say

they aren't games bro, they're channels. Sorta like apps.

I know did he even read what the article was about I don't even think they said anything about a game or games. Lol

He probably read the title, assumed what it meant and then posted for the sake of posting without reading anything.

Unfortunately many people are doing this in order to spam for the MVC badge. The online services of Wii games have not been discontinued and i doubt they will be for atleast another 6 months

Ya I didn't think of that atleast if your going to try to post on a topic read the first few lines or something that way you don't look like a total Derp o_O
