Multiple Wii online services discontinued today

4.4
As planned, Nintendo is today discontinuing several of the outgoing Wii's online services.

The discontinued services will render the following Wii home menu 'Channels' obsolete:

Nintendo Channel
News Channel
Forecast Channel
Everybody Votes Channel
Mii Contest Channel
Data exchange with Wii Friends

The Data Exchange with Friends closure will affect the "exchange of Wii messages on the Wii Message Board, exchange of Mii characters on the Mii Channel and message/data exchange within some games will be disabled".

This comes seven months after the launch of the Wii's successor, Wii U, in November 2012.

The Wii U Shop channel will remain online for the forceable future, and can be accessed directly via the Wii U system while in its backwards-compatible Wii mode.

Nintendo said within its original announcement, "We at Nintendo sincerely thank you for your continued patronage of our company's products. We apologise to those of you currently using these services."

Snowfl4k3z Sound like garbage games.

they aren't games bro, they're channels. Sorta like apps.

I know did he even read what the article was about I don't even think they said anything about a game or games. Lol

He probably read the title, assumed what it meant and then posted for the sake of posting without reading anything.

Unfortunately many people are doing this in order to spam for the MVC badge. The online services of Wii games have not been discontinued and i doubt they will be for atleast another 6 months

Diamonds I didn't use these features anyway, just playing online on SSBB

I could never find a match online on SSBB. I was connected to WiFi on my Wii but never had success landing a match with someone else online.

The Wii is best for Offline Gaming in my opinion.

Yeah but I would have at least liked to see how I paired up against other people xD Never happened unless I had other people over. I could always play Mario Kart online no problem but SSBB was a different story for some reason.

As they should, if people play the Wii, they play it offline.

Not even games. The Wii has "channels" and it's sections for stuff. Sorta like how iPhone has apps, Xbox 360 has the market place and their apps. It's sorta like that.
