Gamescom 2013: Vita price cut to $199 in US, €199 in Europe

Sony is looking to pump life back into the Vita by dropping the flagging portable's price to $199 in the US and €199 in Europe, down from its launch tag of $250/300. The company announced the cut at its Gamescom press conference, and it comes after the portable's drop in Japan to ¥19,980 (around $204) earlier this year. Sony Europe CEO Jim Ryan also noted that "signifiant reductions of the price of PS Vita memory cards in both regions" are coming.
Sony shifted 7 million Vitas and PSPs in the company's last fiscal year (April 2012-March 2013), and predicts that figure to drop to 5 million in the fiscal year ending March 2014. Sony must hope a price drop, along with the Vita's connectivity with PS4, will help boost the portable's sluggish sales.

The PSVITA is more or less different than an iPhone or an iPad as it has actual controls and is made primarily for games (while it has other features). I own a PSVITA currently and have to say that it feels like a portable console and is geared towards more experienced gamers while an iPhone feels like a.. Well a phone and games are not it's main focus.
