Xbox boss 'hopes to bring' Gears of War to Xbox One

A key Xbox exec has addressed the future of the Gears of War franchise on Xbox One.

Speaking in an interview with Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, translated by DualShockers, Microsoft's Game Studios VP, Phil Spencer indicated that while the platform holder would like to see Gears return on its next console, the decisions is ultimately up to developer Epic Games.

"Gears of War is developed by Epic Games, and they've been our partners for a long time on Xbox 360," he said. "You should ask Epic Games about what they want to do.

"We haven't announced anything yet about Gears of War, but we hope to bring it to Xbox One in some form. However, there's nothing more I can tell you at this time."

Key members of the Gears of War development team, including series creator and Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski, are no longer at the studio. In October 2012, Bleszinski resigned from the Gears of War studio some two decades after joining.

This was followed by Epic Games senior producer Chris Wynn, who left to join BioWare's Mass Effect 4 team.

Gears of War director of production Rod Fergusson left the studio in August 2012.

A number of developers from Epic Games' Poland studio People Can Fly, which developed spin-off Gears of War: Judgment, also departed in October, before the resignation of board member and long-term consultant Mike Capps.

They really should create a Gears of War for the Xbox One. The series have been rather enjoyable in the past, and with the next-gen console, there comes even more possibilities to make an absolutely amazing Gear of War.

TheRealGoldIpad I think they should bring the old GOW games to Xbox One. I'm sickened by the new ones that come out, There horrible! I loved the old GOW!


Judgement was not that great. I just wished they would remake Gears 2.

HOW? It is an amazing game with an amazing story line


I have to agree, the campaign is amazing and very fun to play co-op.


I remember playing this with my friends years ago and it was fun to play all the time I don;t hear much about the franchise now I hope it does not die off.

I would love that, GoW is a great game and I hope they continue the series on the X1.

Older games are always better in my opinion nowadays big developers try to milk everybody with Micro Transactions and get you to pay more and more but what are you gonna do ? nothing as we can;t but if they where to bring the older GOW franchise to the Xbox one I think it would sell big again as I know a lot of my friends would buy it again including myself.
