Xbox boss 'hopes to bring' Gears of War to Xbox One

A key Xbox exec has addressed the future of the Gears of War franchise on Xbox One.

Speaking in an interview with Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, translated by DualShockers, Microsoft's Game Studios VP, Phil Spencer indicated that while the platform holder would like to see Gears return on its next console, the decisions is ultimately up to developer Epic Games.

"Gears of War is developed by Epic Games, and they've been our partners for a long time on Xbox 360," he said. "You should ask Epic Games about what they want to do.

"We haven't announced anything yet about Gears of War, but we hope to bring it to Xbox One in some form. However, there's nothing more I can tell you at this time."

Key members of the Gears of War development team, including series creator and Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski, are no longer at the studio. In October 2012, Bleszinski resigned from the Gears of War studio some two decades after joining.

This was followed by Epic Games senior producer Chris Wynn, who left to join BioWare's Mass Effect 4 team.

Gears of War director of production Rod Fergusson left the studio in August 2012.

A number of developers from Epic Games' Poland studio People Can Fly, which developed spin-off Gears of War: Judgment, also departed in October, before the resignation of board member and long-term consultant Mike Capps.

I think they should bring the old GOW games to Xbox One. I'm sickened by the new ones that come out, There horrible! I loved the old GOW!

Gears of War is a great game, I enjoyed both campaign and online.

I think you should give it a go.


I think everybody should give it a go from when I last remember it was a great game to play. Everybody should give it a chance and not judge a book by its cover.

It will be a disaster.. Epic is in for the money, they try to please too many people instead of the people that will actually sit down and play it every night. Their greatest creation wasn't even in their design scheme until late production, they didn't even know if they'd make GoW1 Multiplayer. It's whatever, GoW has lost it's charm imo.
