Activision: Call of Duty is Not a Dying Franchise
In relation to the original Skylanders he commented that the game "was a big risk, we focused on it, we brought all the resources we needed to it, we brought the right creative talent in to make it great and it's paying off."
Hirshberg adds that Activision has "done the same thing over the years with Call of Duty, I would argue better than anyone. We've kept that going long after all the skeptics thought it would start to falter and yet it still gains momentum, it still gains in size and engagement."
He says "a lot of... resources and time and capital" is contributed to the series' development and Call of Duty developers are encouraged to do "a few things exceptionally well."
Referring to Bungie's Destiny, which is being published by Activision, he said:
"We're a company that makes a few bets and when we go we go big, I think that that focused strategy is something that really pays off because it's really hard to make compelling content of this nature that's this deep and this vast, and I like that everybody's focused on doing a few things exceptionally well and getting them right.
"Obviously it starts with creative talent with our development studios, they know how to make great games, but it involves a lot of good work by a lot of different people from a lot of different disciplines to make these things catch fire. Did we sit down and know ahead of time how successful they would all be? No, of course, sometimes it even exceeds your own expectations, but we had confidence they were all winning ideas."
While each Call of Duty has been the biggest game of the year for the last several releases, 2013 will likely be different given the massive success of Grand Theft Auto 5 which generated $1 billion in revenue in three days. Call of Duty: Black Ops was the previous record holder hitting that figure in 15 days.
Activision warned in August that pre-orders for Call of Duty: Ghosts "are well below" those of Black Ops 2. However, GameStop recently announced that Ghosts is "on-track" to be the year's most pre-ordered title. This is likely because the game is being reserved regularly alongside a next-gen console.

To me its already dead but thats my opinion. Also in my opinion its like COD has cancer and someone should just put a bullet to its head so that way it stops suffering and gaining money from this so called "support" :p

PCgamingFTWsDr-JOsbournedaRealRush Not gonna lie, I think the franchise has been dying out, ever since Modern Warfare 2, because after that, it just started to get old!
I would say it have becomed worse since Mw2, but I actually don't think it has been dying out, and probbly wont for a while.
Yeah, it has become terrible but there are more 12 year olds every year. But's inevitable for it to die
It's inevitable for any series to die. The 12 year old excuse is really immature and played out. I went to the GTA 5 midnight launch and I saw a bunch of kids with their moms, dads, and older brothers buying the game. So can we say GTA 5 is only popular because of all the 12 year olds?
You can but majority of GTA is older than 12 while cod is 12-14 on average.

Woobie Sales numbers back this up, but they are losing dedicated fans by the year. Sure they will still sell because to 12 year olds across the world.. killing people is the greatest thing in a videogame.
Agreed, I'm 18 but I'll end up buying this game anyway, I enjoy the campaign alot.
Online is alright, for a few weeks/months.

coDyDaTallGuysorryidontmod no it is a dying franchise for old players that started in between cod2 and cod4. I WILL NOT be getting Ghosts or any other COD after it. Black Ops 2 was probably the worst multiplayer game I've ever played. The only reason that it's "not a dying franchise" is because they add all this **** to accommodate for new/bad players and it brings long term players like me down because skill has very little to do with doing good.
Yea, we older players who played the series when it first came out are starting to believe that the game is dying, but the young kids who get the game for the first time are just getting started. Unfortunately, this series will probably go on for a long, long time.
I've been playing since I got CoD 2 when the 360 first launched. Skipped CoD 3 because I didn't really care after that. But I've brought every single one since CoD 4. I put about 6 days of playtime into BO2 to get 10th prestige before I got bored.
I can say "GTA is dying unfortunately because I'm not buying the game." But do you know how stupid that sounds? BO2 had the most games sold in 24 hours before GTA 5 was released, how is that a dying game?

prisonedalien11 I have all the COD games except for the 3rd. But as of right now I'm not even going to think about ghosts. I think COD is a dying franchise. COD is exciting the first couple of days or weeks you get it but then it's the same thing. Level up to a high level, prestige and restart the process. Battlefield is a little bit the same except more exciting. You have more options in Battlefield than COD. But I'm not getting Ghosts or BF4. I got GTA V and I'm going to spend my time on that. I find games like this more enjoyable than a game where you just shoot people and level up.
you just took the thoughts out of my head I swear lol. I agree 1000000%

oSkill Sadly, Ghosts did outsell GTA V already, but I still do not think it is much as close as a better game than GTA V. COD, for me is basiclly, I buy it from a preorder, play for around a week or two, then just get sick and bored of the same repetitive actions. I do play it when I get bored. But, hopefully this COD, will change things around.
Woah, Woah, Woah, back up there. You're telling me that CoD Ghosts has already sold more than $250 million worth of pre-orders? I highly doubt the game will even come close to $800 mil worth.
