PlayStation 4 App details and user interface shots posted

Sony has released more details on its PlayStation App which was shown off during TGS 2013 last month during Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida’s ketnote.

The app, which launches alongside PS4 later this year will allow users to “take the PlayStation experience with them” wherever they go.

It allows users to stay in touch with friends, compare trophies, view friends’ activity including recorded or live-streamed gameplay on PS4 and access the PlayStation Blog.

“It’s an application that anyone can download for free on iOS and Android devices,” Yoshida told the PS Blog. “There are a variety of things you can do with it. You can connect to your PlayStation profile, and send messages – even voice messages – to friends between your smartphone and PS4.

“A friend on PS4 can also send out an invitation for a multiplayer game, which you can then check on the App, and you can also purchase PS4 games from PlayStation Store. Your game will immediately start downloading while you’re away.”

The app also offers “second screen gameplay features” on enabled titles such as The Playroom, which comes installed on PS4.

“There are many big publishers creating their own apps for their games, like Watch Dogs or Battlefield, and that’s great,” Yoshida added. “But smaller developers can use PlayStation App to connect to PS4 and load an application, like drawing software for example, so that you don’t have to download and install a specific app on your smartphone.

“It’s open to all PS4 developers to use.”

Dr-Ponyfile I still think it's an excuse for laziness just saying lol the features are great but it's just damn lazy haha.

Don't think this will be BETTER than smartglass, but just as good. They seem like basically the same thing. Since the Xbox One is always running even when it's "turned off" (which I'm assuming this is too since the game will "immediately start downloading while you're away"), then I'm guessing you will be able to do the same with smartglass and the Xbox. Not hating, this is a cool feature for the PS4! But I think it will be the equivalent of smartglass.

The interaction levels are better than Smart Glass, but the features like the movies and music, that's better on Smart Glass as the PS4 app doesn't even have that. I hope they put that in soon!
