Broken Xbox One disc drive users should contact support, says MS

Microsoft pushes suffering customers towards tech support

Several launch-day Xbox One users have reported encountering faulty disc drives.

Reports circulating via gaming forums and videos that have appeared on YouTube show Xbox One consoles making loud grinding sounds when a disc in inserted.

According to user accounts, affected consoles such as the one in the video above are completely unable to read discs. It's unclear as yet how widespread the issue is.

Microsoft is yet to directly address the fault, and with no clear solution to offer it advises those affected to contact Xbox phone support.

"If you're seeing those issues with the disc drive, can you please call our phone support," suggests one of the official Xbox Support Twitter feeds.

In a generic statement sent to Kotaku, Microsoft said, "We know that with a hardware launch of this magnitude customers will have questions and we have many avenues for customers to get the answers they need and get back in the game as soon as possible.

"Rest assured we plan to take care of our customers. Any customer who believes they are experiencing an issue with their Xbox One should reach out to us."

daRealRush If my Xbox One broke, I wouldn't be sitting there, twiddling my thumbs! I would've already called them, the moment I realized I had a Broken disc drive!

This does remind me of the Microsoft (supposedly) statement that in the new console you will not get the Red Ring Of Death (RROD).

That's because they removed the red LED's.

And they made the xbox one huge. (It allows it to cool down better) Now for PS4, nope. that's tight as ****. Built in everything. Even with power brick. Size does matter and in this case, xbox won. Pun? Xbox one is huge > PS4 with everything built in and tight as ****

Following your logic my PC should be cold and my laptop will be hot. Before you make yourself look like an idiot any further, just leave.

And, if you have a Laptop you would know it would get very hot after use. While, my PC takes a while to heat up. So his logic works perfectly.

Exactly how many consoles does good 'ol microsoft have lying around? I still want mine.

So the problem is with the gears that operate the mechanism that grabs and ejects the disc. Obviously the gears are grinding past the point they are physically allowed and it's causing this horrible sound. People should be rest assured that sound is not coming from something happening to the disc.. This could be a hardware issue or something they could address with a drive firmware update. I hope for the latter.

You guys need to do more research before talking. They stopped the RROD problems with the xbox slim, which is smaller than he original. Making your excuse for it being huge and cooling down easier useless. Also for saying that there is no more RROD problems because they took out LED's also doesn't make any sense. It might not be called Red Ring of Death but any console could overheat, including the PS4.
