Report: Wii U Outsold Xbox One Last Week

The alleged sales numbers for the week of December 21 have been revealed by VGChartz, and, according to the data, the Wii U outsold Microsoft’s Xbox One console globally last week.

As you can see in the chart below, the Wii U sold 319,860 units world-wide last week while the Xbox One sold only 307,366. Of course, neither systems come close to the numbers of the 3DS which sold 1,078,568 units last week to remain the top selling console in the World.

The news of the Wii U outselling the Xbox One is surprising due to the fact that Microsoft’s console is the newer of the two which has more “hype” at this time of the year. The fact that the Wii U sales are on the upswing can only be good news for a console, and a company, with high hopes for 2014.

How are you not surprised? I don't even think the Wii U, in it's total lifetime, has outsold the total number of PS4's sold worldwide!


Well a jump in sales for the Wii U when the Xbox One and PS4 where released was kind of expected.

Just 2-3 thousand people! On the PS4, there is usually 40000, to like 60000 people!


I am personally not attracted to call of duty any more... i think the newer games like battlefield 4 assassins creed, and sport games are what people play more.
With that being said it all has to do with audience and what type of people are using the different systems. people with an xbox are more entertainment driven, as for people with ps which are more game driven. These are all factors that must be considered when using these numbers.

I have a feeling that if there were as many xbox one's as there were wii u's in stores, this may have been very different. I work at a major retailer and we only received 3 consoles when it launched. We have not received another shipment since launch because they are on a huge back order. Granted I dont live in a major city like LA or NYC but I do live in a larger city. I have had to turn customers away daily. I have 30 different customers a day ask for it. It is a shame that the console is on back order because quite frankly, microsoft would make a kiling.

Well seems like it did, I'm hoping that this sales trend continues with the Wii U


I hope it encourages Nintendo to release a revised version soon.

Well the Wii U is a lot cheaper and it probably isn't on backorder like the Xbox One.
