Microsoft has announced that they intent to start providing refunds to those who are currently paid Xbox Live Gold subscribers and wish to revert to gold if they only use entertainment applications now not behind the golden paywall. Gamers who wish to cancel and get a refund have until August 31st 2014 to ask Microsoft for a return on their membership.

Once the Xbox One and Xbox 360 system updates become available in June, Xbox Live Gold members who purchased a paid membership before that day can cancel and receive a pro-rata refund of any unused remaining days between the date of cancellation and the date their paid Gold membership ends,” reads the updated FAQ.

Cancellation and pro-rata refund requests require six to eight weeks for processing. Free or trial Gold memberships are not eligible for a refund.Microsoft

What's the point geting a refund as most people that use apps also play games online so not many people will ask for a refund.

its if people bought xbl just to use netflix, they can get a refund because now you will not need gold to use netflix

Think it means if you only paid for xbox live to access apps and now that apps are available to silver members it means you can apply for a refund

I know a few of my friends just buy XBL so they can go on and watch Netflix. I'm gonna let them know about this.

This is a good idea but I'm sure if I asked for a refund and reverted to silver I'd regret doing it. :/
