PSN down after suffering DDOS attack

Sony isn't expected to begin maintenance on the PlayStation Network until tomorrow, but PlayStation users were surprised to wake up and find that the online service is already down.

Upon trying to login to PSN, users are greeted with error code "NW-31456-9," which reads "Cannot connect to the server within the time limit."

I got the error code: "NW-31201-7," which simply reads "Cannot connect to the server."

Apparently, it is the result of a DDOS attack by a hacking group known as Lizard Squad. The group admitted to the attack, but didn't really give a reason other than the usual "Sony is a greedy corporation" excuse.

The official Sony PlayStation hasn't confirmed if this is the case, but Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley acknowledged the "large scale DDOS," adding that "it's almost under control now."

These people have also taken down Battle.net which is for games like World of Warcraft, they killed the servers while i was in the middle of a dungeon and i got nothing out of it :/

They all are, Dylan. That is why they are such huge companies. They care far more about making money than they do keeping their loyal communities happy and what not.

That said ps4 hardware is superior and xbox live has been down several times lately for a few hours at a time i have xb1 and ps4 so i know at least it takes a hack to bring sony down its not randomly down every other time you sign on. I have fun on both console just stating facts here....


Woopdie **** do? I could care less if they promised to take down the Xbox Servers too? Also if they did I don't care, but at least Microsoft dedicated 300,000 servers to the new console, unlike Sony. #MicrosoftFanBoyUpInHere

AR is right. This has happened to Sony a whole lot more than Microsoft. No I'm not a microsoft fanboy. I play on PC (and I'm not an elitist either).

I've xbox one and I never had problem with it. You must have crappy internet then.
