Call of Duty Online public beta launches in China

4.7
Call of Duty Online, the China-only freemium version of the mega franchise, is now in open beta for hundred of millions of Chinese. Announced several years ago, publisher Activision has taken a very disciplined approach in developing the game for the region.

"We've worked closely with our partner at Tencent, and we've challenged one of our most trusted and talented development teams of Raven Software to create a true Call of Duty experience tailored for the Chinese market," said Activisition Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg. "Throughout testing, the community feedback has been tremendous. We couldn't be more excited and we look forward to winning the hearts and minds of a new community in China."

Not to mention: all that cash! Almost every major publisher has made a deal with Tencent to get a piece of China's emerging market. Thanks to China's regulations governing international investment, the company has turned into the go-to gatekeeper to the region. That hasn't stopped Tencent from making outside investments of its own, including a minority stake in Epic Games and ownership of League of Legends developer Riot. Oh yeah, Tencent is also a massive "passive investor" in Activision.

This post is for the spastics on TTG:

1. China has this because they cannot play Call of Duty games online. It is illegal in China.

2. This game features maps from CoD4, 5, MW2 and MW3 as well as guns from those games.

3. The engine is from MW2, and yes there is a seperate zombies mode, featuring all of the old maps.

4. You may wish you had it, but people in China wished they could play the game online in the first place. This is good. Stop moaning you ignorant, half-witted idiots, take your head out of your ass/es and realise that this is GOOD. Just because you can't play it, doesn't mean it's bad.

5. By all means move to the lovely land of Communist China, where you have no rights, cannot contact anybody from any other country and will be killed for talking bad about the government. Try thinking about what it would be like in THEIR shoes rather than moaning that you don't have a bloody video game.

It looks alright but it's not like the good old classic zombies they've gone to futuristic with this one in my opinion.

China are like 3 steps ahead of us all

Wish I could play this..

Why can't they do this for people in the general audience? We actually pay for COD and we don't get anything as cool as this.

Shows the effort they put into the crap they release to america and the rest of the world. they make one game to have a "true call of duty experience" and they get a beta and all but we dont get jack shit here really shows why we should stop buying the piece of crap they sell to us every year. just zombies part i would spend 60 bucks on. Pretty much everyone spends hours playing just zombies they get there money out of it.
