That sounds incredibly silly, in that case grab a nice Haswell i7 AND a graphics card. Something like the GTX980 will do lovely.

You can change to a stronger GPU, or the newer Haswell i5's depending what your budget is.

So if I were to upgrade to the best Haswell i5, or get the Radeon R9 290X, which do you think would be bet ...

That error is most commonly caused by either:
A) - A newly installed (past month or so) faulty processor
B) - Overclocking your processor too high

Have either of those occured?

What do you hope you gain from the upgrade? Those specs aren't bad but if you want to tell us all the components you have then a case or PSU upgrade might be useful.
