Ubisoft says ZombiU 'unprofitable, no plans for sequel'

4.5
Ubisoft has no plans to release a ZombiU sequel after the Wii U exclusive failed to turn a profit.

The game wasn't even close to making a return on the French publisher's investment, CEO Yves Guillemot reportedly told GamesIndustry International.

Guillemot is also said to have cited ZombiU's poor performance as the key factor behind switching Rayman Legends from a Wii U exclusive to a multiplatform game.

"We must find a way to ensure the creativity of those games could have a big enough audience," he said. "We hope it will take off. At the moment, we've said 'let's do through Christmas and see where we are from there.'"

Meanwhile, EA chief operating officer Peter Moore has expanded on the reasons for the publisher's recent lack of Wii U support.

He told GamesIndustry: "We were there with four games for them [at launch]. It's been a disappointment when you look at sell-through and, as a company, we have to be very judicious where we deploy our resources.

"The lack of online engagement that we see on Wii U [is troubling]," he added. "It's so integral to what we do. They're so small it's hardly worth running the servers. It seems like a box that's out of sync with the future of EA - which is one that gives a real social feel to our games. The Wii U feels like an offline experience right now."

TFM WiiU just needs to give up.

Agreed I would not call it a console...

It is a console though...

They're trying their best. The original Wii was great, but since then, they have been failing.

Then what would you call it?

a portable console :)

Even if it was a portable console, it would still be a console. The thing is that the Wii U is a console but it's not a portable console. Portable consoles are the PSP and 3DS.

Agreed. It would still be a console. They need to go in a new direction.

Katsumi SSB and Legend of Zelda the wind waker look pretty good. If they bring out more games like those then the Wii U may still have a chance for more sales.

The issue that I have with the Wii and Wii U is that Nintendo really don't know what direction they want to go in, they need to stick with the target audience of gamers, and not families.

The WiiU still has a decent chance in the market if they roll out some good games and get some sales going. I don't see a reason for them to simply 'give up'

The games showed at E3 and the "secret" games they are making might be able to pull it off, The games at E3 are definitely something the Nintendo fans are wanting, or at least SSB is.
