Ubisoft says ZombiU 'unprofitable, no plans for sequel'

4.5
Ubisoft has no plans to release a ZombiU sequel after the Wii U exclusive failed to turn a profit.

The game wasn't even close to making a return on the French publisher's investment, CEO Yves Guillemot reportedly told GamesIndustry International.

Guillemot is also said to have cited ZombiU's poor performance as the key factor behind switching Rayman Legends from a Wii U exclusive to a multiplatform game.

"We must find a way to ensure the creativity of those games could have a big enough audience," he said. "We hope it will take off. At the moment, we've said 'let's do through Christmas and see where we are from there.'"

Meanwhile, EA chief operating officer Peter Moore has expanded on the reasons for the publisher's recent lack of Wii U support.

He told GamesIndustry: "We were there with four games for them [at launch]. It's been a disappointment when you look at sell-through and, as a company, we have to be very judicious where we deploy our resources.

"The lack of online engagement that we see on Wii U [is troubling]," he added. "It's so integral to what we do. They're so small it's hardly worth running the servers. It seems like a box that's out of sync with the future of EA - which is one that gives a real social feel to our games. The Wii U feels like an offline experience right now."

TFM WiiU just needs to give up.

Agreed I would not call it a console...

The WiiU still has a decent chance in the market if they roll out some good games and get some sales going. I don't see a reason for them to simply 'give up'

Katsumi Apparently this was one of the better games for the WiiU. I'm not really surprised that it didn't turn a profit though.. Sales where never looking very good for the WiiU

Yeah, in general, the system was a good idea, but marketing and at the time they decided to release it, was a fail.

The marketing was really bad on release.. it was nowhere near the level of the WiiU. I personally don't like the console design either

RaheemSterling_31 I don't know anyone who was getting the Wii instead of Xbox or PS4

I don't know when anybody here even mentioned about getting a Wii over Xbox One or PS4. It wasn't even mentioned in the article. Were you just making an opinion or just posting to post?

It's possible to get all 3 consoles if you have the money. This article wasn't based around buying the WiiU either way. It's about the game ZombiU

iiExaMplezZz I actually feel sorry for Nintendo, they were a great company and the original Wii was innovative for its time, but the Wii U just wasnt innovative at all and its really dragging Nintendo down.

The Wii U was basically thrown onto the shelves and hoped for the best. They were expecting it to do as good as the Wii did when it came to sales but that's not the case at all.

It is nowhere near what the Wii achieved in sales in the first year. The Wii was extremely innovative when it was released but the WiiU doesn't really bring much to the table. I see no reason to buy one.

I only plan on buying one for the new SSB and a few other games. Other than that there is really nothing else for me to get the Wii U for.
