Destiny to cost Activision 500 million

4.6
It is being reported that Bungie's next sci-fi epic is going to run the publisher, Activision Blizzard, upward of 500 million USD between both development and marketing expenses. The sum was revealed this week by Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick while he attended the Milken conference in Los Angeles. It appears that the publisher is betting big given Bungie's last series spawned a entire pop culture entity that is still thriving after they set it out to pasture in late 2012. Destiny is expected to launch on September 9th on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

If you're making a $500 million bet you can't take that chance with someone else's IP.

The stakes for us are getting bigger.
Bobby Kotick

500 million dollars that's crazy

Well they're going to get a lot off profit made from this game, so spending 500 million shouldn't be a problem

Hopefully they make enough so they can make a PC version. Really want to play this in HD instead of whatever the 360 can handle.

It's a game by Bungie. They're easly gonna triple that 500 mil.

This game does look really good though so I hope they sell enough to make a good profit considering this number.

As much as I love seeing Bungie continue with developing Destiny, what's going to happen to the music since Martin O' Donnell isn't on the team?

This is one of those times where no matter how good the game is, it can't logically live up to the hype.
I feel like the 500M range is feasible though.
